The Anambra State Internal Revenue Service (AIRS) as part of its institutional reform to reposition the Human and Organisational capabilities of the AIRS, urgently seeks to fill position below;

Job Position: Assistant Revenue Officer

Job Responsibilities:
- Enrolling new individuals and businesses into the tax net, issuing unique Taxpayer Identification Numbers (TINs), and ensuring all taxpayer data is accurately captured and
maintained within the AIRS database. - Calculating tax liabilities for individuals (Pay-As-You-Earn (PAYE) and Direct Assessment)
and businesses based on financial statements, returns, and statutory regulations. - Monitoring the filing of tax returns and promptly identifying non-filers or under-filers. They are responsible for following up on outstanding liabilities and ensuring adherence to filing deadlines.
- Assisting taxpayers with the payment process via designated banks or the electronic tax portal, and ensuring that all revenue collected is accurately accounted for and reconciled with bank statements.
- Issuing statutory notices (e.g., Demand Notices, Penalty Notices, Best of Judgement (BOJ) assessments), conducting basic field verification exercises, and participating in enforcement drives against recalcitrant taxpayers.
- Assisting taxpayers with inquires, resolving basic payment issues, clarifying tax laws and
regulations, and educating the public on their tax obligations to encourage voluntary
compliance. - Compiling routine reports on daily and weekly collections, compliance levels within their
jurisdiction, and any operational challenges encountered. - Providing support during tax audits and investigations by compiling necessary documentation and facilitating information flow between auditors and taxpayers.

Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree (B.Sc.) or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Accounting, Taxation or
Economics, Business Administration, Banking and Finance, Public Administration and other
relevant field of studies. - 0-2 years experience required.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills are essential for accurate tax assessment and data interpretation.
- Competency in basic computer applications (Microsoft Office Suite) and the ability to quickly learn the AIRS’s internal software and relevant work tools.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for interacting with taxpayers and colleagues.
- High moral and ethical standards, as the role involves handling sensitive financial information and public funds.
- A basic understanding of Nigerian tax laws and public administration principles is expected.
